EU FINANCIAL AID TO GREECE FOR REFUGEES – Improving the living conditions of refugees

EU Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management Christos Stylianidis has announced that the EU will provide financial assistance to Greece. Mr. Stylianidis said that the EU will give 250 million euros for aid to Greece in order to help the country to cope with the increased needs of the refugee flows.

Speaking at the World Progressive Forum held in Thessaloniki on refugee issues, the European Commissioner said the goal is to transfer refugees from apartment accommodation structures.

Commenting on the slow pace of refugee relocation, he stressed that “there is no right to abstain from the notion of European solidarity.” At the same time, he clarified that “we must all be strict in complying with the terms of European politics and accepting the obligations.”

At the same time, the Greek Minister for Migration Policy Yiannis Mouzalas said that “there is no point in bombing Syria and Afghanistan – and we as Europe have a small contribution to it – and then building houses for refugees”, stressing the importance to fight against smugglers.
