Refugees and Media – The people behind the numbers
With the attendance of immigrant and refugee representatives, as well as journalists, the big “Aware” campaign, aiming on raising awareness on immigrant and refugee issues and compating racism, conlcuded successfully.
The day was focused on the media’s role on the sensitive refugee conversation and the importance of the humanistic approach of the subject.
During the event Mr. Kyriakos Pierides, the head of the “Aware” project, presented the campaign’s work throughout the year, including some short documentaries.
Refugee and immigrant representatives had the chance to voice their expectations from the Cypriot media, in order to receive better treatment from the society in the future.
To conclude the event, a few journalists that stood out for their coverage on the refugee and immigrant issues were honored, in the form of a small ceremony.

«With works against discrimination and racism»
Τhe Journalistic Conference «With works against discrimination and racism» of the “AWARE” campaign, was held on the 21st of March. The conference included greetings from the Minister of Education, the Administrative Committee, the Head of UNHCR in Cyprus, as well as the Head of the European Funds Unit.
Mrs.Matina Zesiadou, the campaign coordinator, headlined the presentation.
The campaign is co-funded by the European Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund and the Republic of Cyprus.
